Flamingo AM – Broadcast AM Bandstop Filter (AM Notch Filter) for Software Defined Radio (SDR) Applications
A high-quality, high-performance bandstop filter designed for software definedradio (SDR) applications. Designed and manufactured by NooElec in NorthAmerica, with a full 2-year product warranty. Broadcast AM can be particularlyproblematic due to the high-powered transmitters used for broadcasting in someareas. These signals can overload the front end of an SDR, causing imaging anda number of other issues. As such, Flamingo AM makes a great companion to ourHam It Up series of HF upconverters. We designed Flamingo AM to providesufficient attenuation for broadcast AM frequencies (>40dB typical) whileensuring adjacent bands, such as 160m, are minimally affected. The -3dBrolloff of the filter is 350kHz and 1900kHz. Minimal out-of-band insertionloss means the filter can stay in place for most any application, though we dorecommend removing Distill:AM from your setup when not listening to HFfrequencies. As a true bandstop filter, you are able to pass-through DC (biaspower) when it is required. DC current handling is 250mA (min), and themaximum recommended signal level is 18dBm (5Vp-p), so there is no issue usingthe filter for higher-power applications. Typical performance characteristicscan be found on the downloads tab of the product page on our website. FlamingoAM has its filter circuitry fully shielded with an EMI frame, and has itsfront end protected by an ESD diode meant for RF applications. 2 mountingholes are available on the PCB for various mounting options, and the SMAhardware (washer and nut) is included.
Product Features
- A high-quality, high-performance broadcast AM bandstop filter designed for software defined radio (SDR) applications. Includes free male SMA-male SMA barrel connector! Designed and manufactured by NooElec in North America. Impeccable quality and full 2-year warranty
- Flamingo AM was designed to provide approximately 40dB attenuation for broadcast AM frequencies, while ensuring that adjacent bands are minimally affected. The -3dB rolloff of the filter is 350kHz and 1900kHz. The minuscule out-of-band insertion losses means the filter can stay in place for most any application–though we do recommend removing Flamingo AM from the signal chain when not receiving HF frequencies
- Flamingo AM is a proper bandstop filter, so you are able to pass-through DC (bias-tee) power when required. DC current handling is 250mA (min), and the maximum recommended signal level is 18dBm (5Vp-p), so there is no issue using the filter for higher-power applications
- The filter is fully EMI shielded, installed in a custom anodized aluminum enclosure for further protection and isolation. The front end is protected by an RF-rated ESD diode, which provides protection not just for your filter, but also the radio or SDR behind it
