Schacht Cricket – Rigid Heddle Loom

The Schacht Cricket Loom is a compact, capable, and cute weaving loom! It’s available in 25cm (10″) or 38cm (15″) weaving widths. The Cricket is made of high-quality maple ply and hard maple and is left unfinished. Each Cricket comes with an 8-dent reed (sorry, no substitutions). We also have 5, 10 and 12 dent reeds available. Included are a threading hook, warping peg, table clamps, two shuttles, and two balls of yarn.

38cm (15″) Weaving Width
The wider weaving width offers more flexibility in your choice of weaving projects, and this Cricket remains portable. Uses the same reeds as the 38cm Flip folding rigid heddle loom. Additional shuttles and pick-up sticks are available.

25cm (10″) Weaving Width
At only 33cm x 45cm x 15cm and just under 1.8kg, it’s easy to take along. The 25cm weaving width gives plenty of room to make a variety of projects without sacrificing portability. It’s an ideal size for a new weaver of any age. As of April 2010, the Cricket has been redesigned with the ratchet gear and dog on the outside of the loom to make it even easier to adjust tension. Additional shuttles and pick-up sticks are available.

How does a rigid heddle loom make weaving fun and easy? When the heddle is moved from the neutral position to the down or up position, it creates a shed, or opening, where the weft can pass through. This makes weaving much quicker than picking each yarn up by hand as you would do with a frame loom. See below.

Down, up, and neutral sheds are created by moving the heddle to different positions.
