About Yoshitomo Nara

Yoshitomo Nara was born in Hirosaki, Aomori, in 1959. After completing his master’s course at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in 1987, he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany. Following his studies, he established his production base in Cologne. Nara is highly regarded for his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations featuring children and animals as motifs. His works have achieved significant acclaim in auction houses, with one piece selling for $3.413 million (approximately 400 million yen) at Christie’s NY in November 2015. The value of his works has increased two to threefold in the past five years.
