This plate references the Great Migration to Canada and the relative success of UK immigrants there. The Great Migration of Canada (also known as the Great Migration from Britain or the second wave of immigration to Canada) was a period of high immigration to Canada from 1815 to 1850, which involved over 800,000 immigrants, mainly of British and Irish origin. Though Europe was becoming richer through the Industrial Revolution, population growth made the relative number of jobs low, forcing many to look to the New World for economic success, especially Canada and the United States.

On the rear of the plate references In 1815, John Doulton began manufacture of pottery in London. Under his son, who became Sir Henry Doulton, the firm extended, acquired four additional factories, became famous throughout the World and has remained famous for Seven reigns. To day, Doulton and Co Limited is the largest of the historic English Fine China makers. More than 330 Gold Medals and Diplomas have been awarded at important exhibitions including Paris, Antwerp, St Louis and Brussels. In 1901 the firm received a Royal Warrant and the words Royal Doulton have since been used in describing their productions.
