The CNC-Ready Single-Axis Machine Slide w/ Dovetail Headstock & Motor 3/4-16 #1m Taper (Metric) is a sophisticated piece of machinery designed for precision and versatility in machining tasks. It features a robust steel bed with ground dovetails, ensuring stability and accuracy. The leadscrew, available in either inch or metric options, is precision rolled from steel and positioned beneath the table to avoid interference from chips, with adjustable backlash for enhanced precision.

The machine is equipped with a CNC stepper motor mount, complemented by a 1-5/8-inch laser-engraved aluminum handwheel, which is graduated in .01 mm increments for metric slides. This setup facilitates precise control and adaptability for various machining applications. The base offers flexible mounting provisions, allowing for secure installation from either the bottom or the top, using the provided angle clamps and socket head cap screws.

The headstock is crafted from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, providing durability and a sleek appearance. It includes a 3/4-16 #1M taper spindle, which is suitable for light-duty operations. The spindle design allows for the passage of long stock through a .405-inch (10 mm) through hole, offering versatility while maintaining safety and operational integrity. A brass gib on the dovetailed base ensures a precise fit with the Sherline steel dovetailed bed and column material.

Powering the machine is a 1/2 HP 90-volt high-torque DC motor, which delivers maximum torque at low RPM, crucial for effective machining. The motor operates smoothly and quietly, with a variable speed electronic control ranging from 70 to 2800 RPM. The V-step pulley offers two positions, allowing for adjustments between high-speed, low-torque and low-speed, high-torque operations. The speed control system is versatile, accepting input from 100 VAC to 240 VAC and converting it to 90V DC output, ensuring consistent performance across different power sources.

Note: The spindle is not designed for high RPM operations with long or out-of-round parts, and exposure to dust or coolant can significantly reduce bearing life.
