Thickness dimensions are ± 1/8 in (± 3 mm). Width and length dimensions are +0.00 to -0.25 in (+0.00 to -6 mm). All weights are ± 5%.

Hesco Testing Protocol

NIJ certification for hard armor necessitates the submission of 10” x 12” test plates that must prove the capability to defeat specified rounds tested according to a valid NIJ shot pattern, following a rigorous conditioning protocol to replicate aging and wear. Level III requires six M80 rounds per plate, while Level IV requires one AP M2 per plate.

To achieve reduced thickness, the BI 4800LV does not include front or back face foam layers and, as a result, does not comply with the drop test or backface signature deformation criteria of NIJ Standard–0101.06. However, its ballistic performance aligns with that of the BI 4800.

Hesco commits to elevated standards by disclosing the minimum number of shots that each plate size is expected to withstand under comparable NIJ testing methods, as well as identifying many additional threats not covered by the NIJ certification process. These minimum numbers are provided here.
