The Siemens – LP4005 UV Light Bulb For Germicidal Water Treatment is a guaranteed replacement 75 Watt light bulb that has a length of 62″. The water treatment bulb has an average lifespan of 10,000 hours and a dielectric base. The germicidal water treatment bulb uses UVC light to inactivate and kill bacteria, molds, viruses, and other pathogens present in water.

This replacement germicidal bulb has a Dielectric base (two pins split by a ceramic divider) that is used for water purification. People are of the opinion that this system provides a safe solution against microorganisms such as giardia and cryptosporidium which are considered to be chlorine resistant. UV light bulb such as this one emits energy at 253.7 nm wavelength and this energy reacts photo-chemically with the genetics of the microorganisms.

Do I need shatterproof coating?

Although shatterproof coating can lower the intensity of the UV-C bulb by as much as 15%, it is recommended for applications in which it is crucial to avoid potential glass breakage at all costs. These applications include but are not limited to food processing and medical institutions. However, if glass breakage would be inconvenient but not catastrophic, skipping the costly shatterproof coating is quite alright. After all, we do not use shatterproof coating with our glasses and plates at home.
